SMITHS SECTRIC bakelite cased electric wall clock with 9 inch dial, 1947

The design of this clock dates to the mid-1940s. It was once a familiar sight in schools, hospitals, factories, stations and offices across the UK and Commonwealth.

This is an early example, dated April 1947. It features the sought after smooth-sweeping red second hand. The dial is tinned steel, which is unusual for a post-war clock, and remarkably well preserved with no rusting. There is slight patchiness to the paint layer and some fading to the screen-printed numerals, but it looks fine from a normal viewing distance.

The clock runs on mains electricity and is driven by the reliable 'Bijou' synchronous motor. It keeps perfect time because it is synchronized to the frequency of the electricity supply.

The clock has been sensitively restored and is in excellent overall condition. It is supplied in full working order with instructions and guidance on aftercare.
