SMITH (SMITHS) bakelite cased 8 day coach clock with 5.5 inch dial, 1947

The classic Smiths coach clock was originally designed for use on public and private UK passenger transport. It would have been fitted at the front of the coach so that it was visible to passengers and driver. These petite yet solid timepieces make ideal wall clocks.

The front of the clock comprises a heavy chromed bezel holding the entire movement. This is hinged from the steel back plate, swinging upwards to allow access for winding and time setting. The diecast movement housing is finished in black crackle paint. The entire assembly is housed in a mottled brown bakelite case.

The clock is powered by the well proven Smiths 8 day 2 inch movement with platform escapement and will run for over a week on a full wind.

This fine example, dated 1947, has been sensitively restored and is in excellent overall condition. The back plate has been refinished but the clock is otherwise completely original. It is supplied in full working order with instructions on setting up and regulating plus guidance on aftercare.

Dial diameter 5.5 inches (140mm); bezel diameter 165mm; case diameter 178mm; overall depth 58mm. Weight 1.5kg
