SHORT & MASON mahogany cased aneroid barometer, 1960

The British company Short and Mason was highly renowned for its precision measuring instruments, supplying industry, academia and government for over 100 years. It also supplied scientific instruments to the Scott and Shackleton polar expeditions and Everest climbers.

This stylish barometer was produced for the domestic retail market in 1960. It features a 4.5 inch high quality aneroid movement set in a turned and polished, saucer-shaped solid golden mahogany case. The steel dial is engraved and champagne enamelled. The spun brass bezel holds a thick bevelled glass and silvered sight ring.

The barometer has been fully disassembled, serviced, cleaned and polished. It is in excellent vintage condition with a few light marks consistent with careful use. It is currently set to read pressure at sea-level but will be supplied with instructions on adjustment to local conditions together with guidance on reading and forecasting.
