PHILIPS 13.5 inch terrestrial globe with physical mapping, 1962

This is a fine vintage globe from the renowned British globe maker Philips, showing principal physical features and the political map of the world as it was in 1962.

The globe is constructed from two pasteboard hemispheres with hand-applied composite paper gores, joined at the equator. It is mounted on a turned, solid oak base supporting a chromed and graduated meridian, with an aluminium time dial at the North Pole.

The map has been carefully cleaned and apart from a few minor marks it is in excellent condition, retaining full colour with no fading or loss (the worst of these marks is across the cartouche - shown below). The base and mount have also been cleaned and polished and are in excellent condition.
