KIENZLE 'Chronoquartz' World Time Clock after Heinrich Moeller, late 1970s

Kienzle, Germany's oldest manufacturer of clocks and watches, produced some of the most recognisable clocks of the 20th century under the creative and visionary direction of Heinrich Moeller, their chief designer from 1931 until 1970. Despite changing tastes and technology, Moeller's distinctive modernist style continued to influence Kienzle design throughout the latter half of the century.

This is a late version of his iconic World Time Clock, which was in production in various forms from 1938 until 1996. Dating to the late 1970s, it features a Kienzle quartz movement with stop/start function (useful for synchronising to a time signal) which also drives the subsidiary time-zone dial. It retains the slim profile, domed glass and pedestal base of earlier models together with a high proportion of solid brass components. Also, the quality of construction and attention to detail which characterised Moeller's work are still in evidence.

The clock is generally in excellent condition, although there has been some battery leakage causing slight staining and corrosion to the rear of the clock (shown in the photos). It has been disassembled and cleaned and is in full working order (it takes a single C type battery but an AA can also be used). It will be supplied with instructions on synchronising the time-zone dial.
