GEOGRAPHIA 10 inch terrestrial globe, circa 1935

This is an excellent early example of the larger (10") table globe from the British company Geographia. It can be dated to circa 1935 as Iran is shown with Persia in brackets (Iran from 1935), but Italian Somaliland has not yet been incorporated into Italian East Africa (1936).

The globe is constructed from a pasteboard sphere with 12 hand-applied paper gores. It features a turned mahogany base with a chromed brass half meridian, polar beaings and finials.

The map retains vivid colour with minimal fading. There are areas of scuffing and staining, most notably in the Pacific (shown in the last photograph), and one small area of loss to the left of the cartouche, but these do not really detract nor affect legibility. There are some minor scratches to the base, but these would not justify refinishing.

The map has been carefully cleaned but otherwise left completely original. The chromed parts have also been cleaned and the base treated with a restorative solution and wax polished.
