The Ericofon was the first 'designer' telephone and is now a 20th century design icon in its own right.

It was conceived as early as the 1940s, with the aim of combining handset and dial in a single unit. Ericsson started manufacture in the 1950s and although reaction was mixed, the telephone soon acquired cult status.

The Ericofon finally made it to Britain in 1980 as part of BTs Special Range, although most handsets available today have found their way in thanks to devoted followers.
