BAUSCH & LOMB engraved gold filled sunglasses, USA, 1930s

The design and craftsmanship of 1930s American eyewear was of the highest quality. Companies such as Bausch and Lomb and American Optical were producing fine gold-filled frames that would cost a small fortune today (there is 10 times more gold in gold-filled than gold-plated).

These beautiful early B&L sunglasses predate the Ray-Ban brand (introduced in 1937) and feature finely engraved 12K gold-filled frames with flexible coil temples and an Art-Deco inspired bridge detail. The mineral glass lenses are original and bright apple green.

The sunglasses have been disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and polished and are in excellent condition. The lenses have some very light table scratches but these do not adversely affect vision.
